Everybody wants to admit their mistakes, said no one ever. You know the Sci-fi movie Interstellar where TARS' honesty parameters were set to 90%? Yeah.

But why not? Because we humans are actually not receptive towards straightforwardness. We actually don’t do it, for fear of being ostracised or to burn unnecessary bridges.

Absolute honesty isn’t always the most diplomatic nor the safest form of communication with emotional beings -TARS

Gee, to think that a robot actually understands us better than ourselves!

Call it ego, the inner pride of self-respect or the devil’s whispers. I don’t care. We let ourselves down whenever we let the inner voices hijack our thoughts. And that is when we become severely limited on our judgment.

Remember the time when you implode in anger when the lecturer reprimanded you on your assignment? Or perhaps the general criticism from your thankless boss who took credit for the project you did over the past weekend? Or that family member who had your interest at heart by giving you a piece of their mind, only to receive a backlash and a roundhouse kick to the face? Well, I hope the last part doesn’t happen…

Let me know if you take it well. Most of us were blinded when receiving feedbacks during these kinds of situations especially when you’re clenched to the teeth, seething in anger.

But you know it. You prevent yourself from improving. Yet, you prefer to just let your emotions run amok.

Only if we are able to self reflect on the criticisms objectively that we can improve.

It is time to tame that egoistic, prideful beast within and improve your self.

What are your tips to keep yourself in check? Let’s share.
