He takes a deep breath and advances another step up the ledge.

The 45-year-old engineer thought that he had life all figured out; A perfect family, a swanky apartment in downtown Marina Bay and a fancy car to drive around over the weekends.

He devoted his life to the company ever since he was a young engineer. Now he felt devastated. He felt betrayed that the company has decided to lay him off in favor of a major restructuring that appeases the shareholders.

What am I going to do? What will people think of me?

His mind was befuddled by thoughts. Thoughts that previously, seems so alien to comprehend.

He takes another deep breath and closes his bloodshot eyes.

“Hey Mister, do you see that? There’s a person standing at the top of the roof!” I gestured to the commuter next to me at the bus stop.

I shade my right hand in the early morning sun as I make out a silhouette of a person, standing right at the edge of a ledge.

Oh my, why does he have to go all the way up there? Surely, all problems have a solution.
