Are you someone who gets easily dismayed when you wished for a sunny weekend, only to peek from the comforter and realises that it is raining outside?
And then you groan and croak, turning about to find the sweet spot of not getting too stuffy and too cold. So much for yesterday’s determination.
You’re not alone.
The week has been rather wet and gloomy, and today is no exception. I have a list of backdated chores to be done and there is a possibility that I may have to retain this another week.
When we are not doing anything at home, a lot of negativity can seep into you without you realising it.
“For, after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining, is to let it rain” — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
This is why I have a backup plan to keep myself busy, in the event that motivation backfires.
It’s basically a list that precedes my to-do, consisting of passive work that needs attention.
For example, In the event of circumstances are beyond my control, (read: lazy, unmotivated, tired), I would concentrate on the following:
- House cleaning*
- Take stock of inventory. eg. household equipment, grocery etc.
- <Break>
- Watch a movie and learn from it
- Self- reflection
- <Break>
- Improve my vocabulary
- Read a book*
- <Break>
- Prayers*
*Asterisk denotes the three things I must do.
We are defined by our actions. I believe that we still have some control over any given situation, no matter how catastrophic it may be.
I am reminded of a quote from Dale Carnegie’s How To Stop Worrying And Start Living,
“I must lose myself in action, lest I wither in despair” — Lord Alfred Tennyson.
