We need one another
I frequently stumbled upon motivation stories like that person who built a company from scratch, the supermom who raised her 5 kids single-handedly and the man who simply doesn’t break down until he succeeds.
These stories are often painted with a glorified view of an independent individual, spurring others to emulate their lead.
Something seems missing.
These people are great, but they aren’t really what the articles portray them to be. Study their routines and I can guarantee you that there is usually a support network or someone that they actually lean on for help.
Mozart had the support of his father before he became a great musician.
Tiger Woods has the support of his dad to coach him during his formative years.
Even Batman has Alfred for emotional support.
Sometimes we get blinded by their stories of greatness that we forget that there are behind-the-scenes helpers that bring them to where they are.
I believe they practiced a concept of interdependence, which is a balance between being self-reliant and being aware that their self is insufficient to bring their work to the next level.
