Do you remember the last time you feel all pumped and ready to conquer the world right after watching a motivational video while going about with your mind-numbing day?
I do.
Motivation is awesome. It spurs me to do better in my tasks.
Except that it doesn’t last long.
Gradually, things that initially excites you become increasingly repetitive and boring and your mojo fizzles out of existence.
Am I wrong about motivation? Or does relying on external sources of motivation a bad idea, to begin with?
Motivation is unreliable in itself
It turns out that following through with only motivation as my sole guidance forms an incomplete part of the equation.
This is evident in a study about motivation which was conducted back in 2002. In this test, researchers found that the participants who are required to commit an exercise regime by motivation are unlikely to follow through with their fitness program as opposed to the group that relies on both motivation and intention.
