The easy way to crank up your day

Do you know that it takes a huge chunk of willpower for someone to start on a new task?

That’s why it is easy for us to slink back to our comfort zone and let your feelings and your thoughts overpower your decision.

“I have nothing good to write”

“I slept late yesterday and I probably should tone down on today’s workload. I declare today to be a rest day”.

“Ah! Tomorrow is a Sunday. I’ll definitely get work done after my morning jog”.

This is the same old narrative you tell yourself. You know that tomorrow will be the same things you’ll tell yourself but just a different day.

So what should you do to get out of this loop?

Enter the 1 minute challenge.

A minute might sound insignificant to you. But 60 seconds can have a drastic change to any of the events below.

  • A minute of silence moves the crowd;
  • A minute of delayed information affects the stock market;
  • A minute without oxygen can have the difference between life and death.

And that is what makes it powerful, yet insignificant at the same time. A minute doesn’t have much effect your willpower.

I wrote this article based on a minute of my time, but momentum kicks in and I ended up spending about 15 minutes on this. The best thing about this strategy is that its effortless and target a moment of your time, just to kick start on any given task that you wanted to achieve.

Why don’t you give this a try?

I end this article with a quote from Darren Hardy in his very honest and well written book The Compound effect,

“Everything in your life exists because you first made a choice about something. Choices are at the root of every one of your results. Each choice starts a behaviour that over time becomes a habit. Choose poorly, and you just might find yourself back at the drawing board, forced to make new, often harder choices. Don’t choose at all, and you’ve made the choice to be the passive receiver of whatever comes your way.”
