A tribute to the late Ali Banat

Some people see the events that shape up their lives as either fortuitous or as a time-ticking disaster.

For me, I see events happen no matter the outcome. I recently read about this fascinating account and took some time to research about this individual; An Australian Muslim millionaire and philanthropist who had everything in life.

He lived a lavish lifestyle and can afford practically any thing.

Until one day, he got something he actually didn’t want.

Cancer.

The silent, creeping death. I imagine tiny rogue cells transformed into crabs; the little devils pinching and nibbling bits out of you from the inside.

With the doctors predicting that he had only months to live, Ali Banat began re-evaluating his life purposes and made a radical change in his lifestyle.

Instead of chasing and accumulating material wealth, he focused his attention to helping others worldwide.

He sold most of his prized luxuries and used his wealth for humanitarian endeavours.

In the above interview, Ali even mentioned that God had given him cancer as a gift to remind that life in this world is a momentary passing.

Ali Banat made the best of the opportunity to give his all for about 3 years, before he succumbed to the disease and passed away peacefully on the 29 May 2018.

When we are presented with our own mortality, especially cancer, do you think we would frantically search for a cure or to live our lives with purpose?

Ali’s death is a reminder to us all that there is more to life than the material possessions. It is something we humans possess, the capacity to give and help others regardless of our status in life.
